The roots of the Spur Group stretch back to 1967, when Allen Ambor, Chairman of Spur Corporation Limited, opened the Golden Spur Steak Ranch in Newlands, Cape Town. The Spur Group has grown over the last 39 years to the point where, on 30 June 2006, it traded with 324 restaurants in the following countries:- South Africa, Australia, Botstwana, Ireland, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe.
The Spur Group first listed on the JSE Securities Exchange in 1986. In 1999 a major restructuring was undertaken, to provide management incentivisation and capital for growth. In the early 1990’s, Allen Ambor, chairman of Spur Corporation Limited, saw a gap in the market for a quality pizza pasta restaurant with a friendly environment and quality Italian styled food. Since Panarottis opened its first outlet in the Tygervalley shopping centre, in Cape Town in December 1990, it has grown into a pizza pasta franchising success story. The Spur Group also holds 65% share of John Dory’s Fish & Grill. John Dory’s Fish & Grill, started in 1996 in Durban and is renowned for its value-for-money Mediterranean-style food and friendly, informal ambience. One of the original founders still owns a share in the company, and is actively involved in the business. |
We recognise the importance of human capital and ensure high quality service delivery through vigorous training. We provide essential training to all individuals participating in the day-to-day running and success of the restaurant. We train front of house managers who are responsible for the overall running of the business, back of house employees who prepare the meals and servers who interact with customers.
Training is continuous and is provided by way of lecture style presentation, videos and/or DVD’s, training manuals and hands-on in-store training at various Spur restaurants, depending on the location of the new venture. |
