Background / History of Business
Chicken King, managed by franchise management group Retsol, has been voted into the top 10 of the Sunday Times Generation Next Youth Brand Survey, indicating favourable ratings by South Africa's urban youth.  This is good news for the brand:  Chicken King was not featured in the Top 10 in 2006 but has been voted tenth best fast food place in 2007.

The Generation Next Survey, conducted during the first quarter of 2007, is an annual youth brand preference study that tracks the evolving consumption behavior of young South Africans.  The survey is becoming increasingly important as, according to HDI youth marketers, the youth market represents the single largest proportion of SA's population (53%).  In addition, young consumers often influence the brand or purchase decisions of others - their parents, siblings or friends.  The researchers identify three target groups, tweens (primary school, aged 8 to 13), teens (secondary school, 14 to 18) and young adults (19 to 23) and analyze preferences and consumption similarities and differences by age, gender and subculture.
