Description

Cardies outlets are seen in prime premises in most leading shopping centres in Southern Africa and specialise in greeting cards and related products, gifts and novelties: everything you could ever need to make a loved one feel special. Because we mean it when we promise: 'Cardies says it best.

Background / History of Business
Cardies is proud to have become an iconic South African brand. We opened our first store over 28 years ago, and now have over 90 in Southern Africa. But reaching a milestone doesn't mean resting on our laurels, so we are just as busy as ever creating exciting new greetings and sourcing products from all over the world to help you say it best!

We are affiliates of the international greeting giant, American Greetings who have also been around awhile - since 1906. They are the world's largest publicly owned manufacturer and distributor of greeting or 'social expression' products. American Greetings also has wholly-owned subsidiaries in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France and Mexico. In South Africa, we are part of SA Greetings, and similar licensees exist in about 70 other countries.

Minimum Investment

1.) Purchasing an existing Cardies. The store cost will vary and will depend on the success of the outlet. We calculate a recommended purchase price on a 30% Return on Investment, and can range from R50,000 to well over a Million Rand.

2.) Purchasing a New Cardies. We conduct a turnkey operation, meaning we will secure a suitable site, and shopfit and merchandise the store, in order for you to open the doors and begin trading. The set up cost for this option ranges between R280,000 and R350,000.

The next cost factor is the stock. The stockholding of the store will vary depending on the size of the store, as well as if the store opens/or is taken over before a high seasonal period like Christmas, Valentines or Mother's Day. In addition to the above costs, you are looking at a stock investment ranging from R250,000 to R350,000.

A t least one third of the total purchase price must be unencumbered cash. Meaning that you would need at least one third of the purchase price + stock price in cash.

There are no up-front franchise costs, however a franchise consideration is payable, which is broken into 5% Royalty and 2% for national Cardies Brand Advertising. These percentages are based on the monthly nett turnover, excluding VAT.
